Liverpool Clinical Laboratories (LCL) is the largest provider of pathology services in the Northwest, jointly owned by Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust and Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Applications are invited for an experienced, suitably qualified HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join a dynamic workforce in the Department of Haematology and Transfusion Blood Sciences at the Royal Liverpool Hospital site of Liverpool Clinical Laboratories. This busy department operates 24 hours, is well equipped with modern automation and processes in excess of 470000 samples per annum. The post holder will be expected to participate in the out of hours shift pattern supporting the provision of a 24 hour analytical service, working under Agenda for Change terms and conditions. Main duties will ensure the operational functionality of the laboratory areas. This will include calibrating, maintaining and operating complex analytical equipment and regularly reviewing internal quality control and external quality assurance data trends, taking action as appropriate. You will be responsible for the validation of analytical data prior to result reporting. You will be responsible for the selection and provision of suitable blood and blood products to patients requiring transfusion. You will have experience of LIMS, other IT systems and you will have experience of Quality Management Systems. You should be able to demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills; you will be expected to train all other appropriate grades of staff and support the Senior Biomedical Scientists responsible for the day to day organisation of the laboratory. You will be expected to maintain the required professional standards and an up to date knowledge of Haematology and Transfusion Sciences and current working practices. Working as part of the team you will contribute to the provision and further development of a high quality diagnostic service.
The department is fully CPA accredited and awaiting UKAS ISO 15189:2012 accreditation. It is also accredited by the HCPC/IBMS as a training laboratory for both Certificate of Competency and the Specialist Portfolio.
